Lillo Brancato Jr. is an American actor known for his roles in both film and television. He was born on March 30, 1976, in Bogotá, Colombia, and was adopted by Italian-American parents. Brancato rose to fame with his role as Calogero Anello in the 1993 film "A Bronx Tale," which was directed by Robert De Niro. This role marked his film debut and garnered significant attention for his performance as a young Italian-American caught between the influences of his father and a local mobster.
Brancato also appeared in other films such as "Renaissance Man" (1994), "Crimson Tide" (1995), and "The Sopranos" (1999-2006) on television, where he had a recurring role as Matthew Bevilaqua. Despite his early success in acting, Brancato's career was overshadowed by legal and personal issues.
In 2005, Brancato was arrested in connection with a burglary in the Bronx that resulted in the death of an off-duty police officer, Daniel Enchautegui. Brancato was charged with second-degree murder but was ultimately acquitted of that charge in a 2008 trial. However, he was convicted of first-degree attempted burglary and sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was released on parole in December 2013 after serving approximately eight years.
Since his release, Brancato has sought to rebuild his life and career, focusing on rehabilitation and sharing his story to warn others against the dangers of addiction and poor decision-making.
